A DAY TO REMEMBER!
THE Flower Bank’s first-ever wedding workshop was a triumph.
As these pictures illustrate, internationally renowned floral designers Richard Haslam and Helen Jamieson wowed florists with their innovative wired decorations, table displays and hand ties.
“A fantastic day, a great atmosphere and enthusiastic, imaginative florists who embraced new ways of working,” declared Richard who travelled to The Flower Bank from his home in Dublin by ferry after Iceland’s volcanic ash cloud grounded all flights into UK airspace.
“Sentiments I second entirely,” enthused Helen from Newcastle, “and the day absolutely flew by.”
Helen Wilson, who runs The Flower Bank, was buoyed by the enthusiasm of the participants.
“After the success of our first two open days last year I was keen to start running events like these to give something back to the florists who we work with every week,” she said.
“There was a great sense of camaraderie and everyone seemed to learn something new - particularly in the areas of wire work.
“Richard and Helen were true stars.”
Florist Brenda Dowding of Gardenalia was thrilled to learn new techniques. “Brides are becoming more discerning and are looking for bespoke flowers to make their big day even more special,” she said.
“This was a brilliant workshop and I took away lots of new ideas for the wedding season.”
Diana Cairns runs Stems in Jedburgh. “I learned so many new techniques, particularly in the area of wirework. I can’t wait to suggest new ideas to my brides.”
New florist Giselle McLaughlan is opening Flowerstalk in Annan later this year. “I am currently a nurse at the Lockerbie Surgery and I am eager for a career change,” she said. “I’m as keen as mustard to learn new things and today was an eye-opener for me. Fabulous!”
Angela Murray of Garden Wise in Annan added: “It’s been a wonderful opportunity I feel inspired by new ideas. I’ve learned all sorts of new things with which to tempt customers!”
Helen Wilson concluded: “Such was the enthusiasm in the wedding workshop I am already planning another one for next spring. Look out on the website for further details.”
